Ms. Elieen Bygrave who started her career in advertising and ventured into fashion and retail industries, shared her rich experiences with RC4 residents who were treated with delicious ice cream to complete the insightful session.

Hosted by Prof. Choo Chiau Beng, RC4 Rector, Ms. Elieen's session widens the perspectives on the importance of style in our daily lives.

Rector’s Ice Cream Night - Ordinary Lives, Extraordinary Stories “Style, not Fashion”

I have to admit that I didn't have much interest in the topic at the start. However, as I enjoy learning about things I don't know much about, I attended the talk with an open mind.

I feel that I took away a few pointers on how to dress and carry myself better. Besides the main topic of "style", I realise that there is much more to be learnt from Ms Eileen Bygrave - how she made the best of her situation, and in a foreign land and against all odds managed to succeed despite being a newcomer and outsider. I also found it interesting how the RC4 Rector Prof Choo met Ms Bygrave through a wellness program at NUS and this has reinforced the importance of networking.

All in all I think the overall lesson I learnt is that we should always try to maintain a stylish image on a daily basis, work hard and we will be recognised one day, be daring (as those who dare, win), meet new people and have an open mind to learn about things outside of our areas of interest to broaden our horizons - who knows what you may learn.

Came for the ice cream, left with life lessons and advice. Great sharing session. I look forward to the next Perspectives session.
