RC4 Open House 2022

5th & 12th March 2022

Residential College 4 had a successful Open House where we received full sign-ups for our physical tours on 5 March 2022 and organised a virtual Q&A session on 12 March 2022! Prospective students and parents who joined us in the Open House get to understand about the holistic development that the college provides to each and every resident, value-adding to their university education.

Our professors, students and alumni were honoured and enjoyed interacting with each and every one of you. We thank our Open House Committee and volunteers for their hard work and dedication that made this event a success!

I enjoyed being given the opportunity to lead the team and overseeing the success of Open House. My favourite moment has to be the actual day itself, where the effort of months of preparation is clearly visible. People I talked to gave positive remarks about their experience, and the NUS President and Provost visited and I took a photo with them!

The most challenging part of the event was definitely the planning. It's hard to predict exactly how the COVID situation will improve, and the team needed time to get into each of their roles and learn how to work with their teams.

One new initiative this year was presenting items that represented each interest group. For example, we had music sheets for our music ensemble group, sports equipment for each sport group, etc. This drew the attention of the visitors and provided a more immersive experience.

I loved the fact that so many people came, and that they seemed to enjoy getting to know RC4 - it really makes me feel proud to be a resident here! Some challenges we faced included the difficulty of adjusting along with the prevailing COVID-19 safe management measures, so we had to plan for as many situations as possible!

I love the aesthetics of our Open House. We have make efforts and leverage on different types of social media platforms to publicise RC4 and reach out to people. The success can be seen from the amount of people coming to RC4. I especially like our mock room layout, really creating an immersive experience. And our academic program booths are well organised.

There are changes to the plans along the way mostly because of safe management measures and the communication within main committee. Our Open House happened in the mist of mid-term exams so manpower and level of commitment were concerned. Nonetheless, we pulled through it together.

The part I enjoyed most about Open House was the actual day especially seeing it turn out to be a success - a lot of people came and enjoyed our activities. Some challengers include leading a committee and allocate work efficiently, as well as dealing with technical issues in marketing of the event on social media platforms. Word-of-month has worked very well in the publicity of the event too!

I really enjoyed the physical Open House as I managed to witness a successful open house with good turn out. The main challenges encountered were the delegation of jobs and differentiation of job scopes but we eventually got over it together as a team.

The AMA reddit thread is an addition which I feel should be kept as we managed to reach out to close to 20k people, which is an impressive number. The 3D room was also rather unique as it has never been done before for any hostel, and RC4 might be the pioneer for this.

I enjoyed the ability to have a say in how RC4 was projected towards potential applicants, and that I was thus able to shape RC4 in my own small way. The main challenge I encountered was handling various manpower issues, such as communicating information to all volunteers in a timely and concise manner.

A new initiative that I found very beneficial was the inclusion of House, showcasing the daily life in RC4.
