RC4 STEER Himalaya Forum

20th September 2023

The STEER-Himalaya Forum brought together previous cohorts of the RC4 STEER Himalaya program, fresh candidates, experts from the region and the Associate Vice President of NUS-GRO. The RC4 STEER team demonstrated how fieldwork and Systems Thinking can be blended to co-create knowledge targeting mutual learning among students, educators, and community development practitioners. The panel discussion among experts illustrated the complexities of livelihoods, migration, conservation, and development in the Himalayan landscape. There was a consensus that the continuity of such transdisciplinary learning is essential to push the boundary from experiential learning to the level of social learning.

The STEER Himalaya Forum was very inspiring. It was amazing to learn about the experiences of my friends, I was inspired by their drive and compassion to do good for the community in Indian Himalaya Region. Further, I gained valuable insight from the sharing by Prof Pandit and Prem Das Rai! It was very interesting to see the links between policies and impacts on the environment.
