Championing Sustainability Across Global Divides by Prof Shih Choon Fong

On 15 March 2024, Residential College 4 (RC4) concluded an enlightening public lecture by Professor Shih Choon Fong, former President of National University of Singapore (NUS). Co-organised by RC4, NUS College and NUS Office of Alumni Relations, the event provided a thought-provoking exploration of sustainable development and its global implications.

Prof Shih, a distinguished figure with a wealth of experience in academia and industry, is renowned for his contributions to fostering a borderless culture of education, innovation, and entrepreneurship. With his extensive background, including serving as the Founding President of King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) in Saudi Arabia, and recently China, Prof Shih brought a unique perspective on the challenges and opportunities in sustainable development.

In his lecture, Prof Shih emphasized the critical role of universities and future graduates in driving creative, innovative, research-led sustainability. "The university and its future graduates must be pivotal in delivering creative, innovative, research-led sustainability," Prof Shih remarked. He shared his insights on the current states and anticipated trends in sustainable development across different countries.
