On 16 September 2025, RC4 residents embarked on an unforgettable journey through the cosmos at the semesterly Formal Dinner, themed “Nebular Soirée”. The dining hall was transformed into the "Starliner Nebular," a luxurious spaceship that took attendees on an adventure of fine dining and captivating performances. With decorations adorning every corner, the stage was set for a night of elegance, entertainment and celebration. The air buzzed with excitement as residents, dressed in their finest suits and dresses, stepped aboard.

The evening began with a networking session among VIP guests  - RC4 faculty, alumni, distinguished guests and 11th College Student Committee members at the Common Lounge. Thereafter, residents welcomed the grand entrance of the esteemed VIPs.

The evening's formalities were opened by Guest of Honour, Associate Provost of Integrated Education, Associate Professor Wong Mun Loke, who delivered an inspiring welcome address. RC4's Master, Associate Professor Peter Pang, then took the stage to reflect on the College’s accomplishments, giving special commendation to the RC4 Flag team for a historic achievement: attaining the NUSSU RAG & Flag Gold Award. The victory was particularly meaningful as it marked the first Gold Award for RC4 in its 11-year history. Finally, 11th College Students’ Committee President, Louis Chung, then gave a heartfelt speech to encourage fellow residents to make full use of their time in RC4, and treasure the memories made as a community.

As the Starliner Nebular cruised through the galaxy, residents were treated to a variety of stellar performances.

The night's entertainment included musical acts by The Unemployed, Fantastic 7, Fossils, Best Part of Nothing, and a staff-student trio performance by Alston Liu (Year 3 Finance, Exchange student), Associate Professor Tan Tin Wee and his son.

Reflecting on her experience, Fossils’ lead singer Sophia Huan (Year 4 Business) said, “What I’ll remember most isn’t just the performance itself, but everything that happened before! From the laughter during our practice sessions to the nervous energy seconds before the first note started, it was a mix of chaos and excitement that made the whole journey unforgettable. It was also really fun to see residents dancing and turning up the energy!”

Sophia Huan, part of the band, Fossils, thoroughly relished her time as they performed three songs.

Fossils is a band comprised entirely of seniors, namely Cameron Loh (left, Year 3 Philosophy, Politics, and Economics), Sophia Huan (second from left, Year 4 Business), Harmony Lau (centre, Year 3 Electrical Engineering), Julian Tham (second from right, Year 4 Communications and New Media), and Ridhuan Syafiq (right, Year 4 Chemistry).

The freshman duo from Best Part of Nothing, comprised of Jonathan Liew (left, Year 1 Mathematics) and Sarah Chau (right, Year 1 Computer Science) performed three songs that tugged at everyone’s heartstrings.

Residents danced the night away as they immersed themselves in  the performances.

A highlight of the evening was the RC4 Scholars Presentation, where the college recognised and celebrated the achievements of outstanding residents.

One of the RC4 scholars, Zedd Chia (left, Year 3 Psychology) is a Resident Assistant, as well as Head of ORC4RE, a student-led group that aims to foster a caring and supportive residential community in RC4.

The night also featured an interactive Kahoot session, adding a fun and competitive element.

Hmm… better luck at Kahoot next time?

The interstellar voyage concluded with house photo taking and a photobooth, allowing residents to capture lasting memories of their night among the stars.

The Nebular Soirée was a resounding success, a testament to the vibrant and talented community we have in RC4.

Thank you to the dedicated team of Resident Assistants for organising the dinner, performers, faculty and staff, and attendees who contributed to making this night one to remember!

All smiles from the Resident Assistants for a successful dinner planned and executed!
