Woven in Teal: The RC4 Community and Operation Tealsday

Every year, Operation Tealsday transforms RC4 into a sea of enthusiastic residents wearing splashes of teal. From interactive games, exclusive RC4 merchandise, the debut of house socks, a live churros station, and the introduction of the RC4U mirror, the event offers something for everyone.
Yet beyond the merchandise and activities lies something far more meaningful. It is a celebration of the RC4 community where residents come together to share an evening of experiences, memories, and proudly embrace what it means to be part of RC4.
Through the evening, it was clear that the heart of Ops Tealsday was found not in the booths themselves, but in the moments happening around them. Friends gathered around the merchandise booths, excited to match with friends and debating which house merch was more attractive.
Queues became an opportunity to reconnect with familiar faces or meet someone new. Around the games, laughter broke out between people playing together, while the sight of freshly made churros drew residents together over a shared sweet tooth.
At the RC4U mirror, groups paused to doodle on the mirror and snap photos to capture memories that would last longer than the evening. Few chose to linger after making rounds of the booths to simply hang out with friends and enjoy the lively atmosphere and company.
What made Ops Tealsday especially meaningful was that every activity served a purpose beyond entertainment. The RC4 merchandise gave residents something tangible to carry their college identity beyond the event, which was immediately reflected in the number of merch spotted across campus in the following days.
The introduction of house apparel encouraged house pride, whereas the Welfare drops reminded residents that even during the busy parts of the semester, the college continues to care for their well-being through small but thoughtful gestures.
The RC4U mirror became more than just a photo spot. It provided a place to celebrate friendships and capture memories. Meanwhile, the games and live station created reasons for residents to stay, interact and share moments of joy, breaking the monotonous routine of academic life.
While attendance figures or merchandise revenue collected may be one way of measuring the success of the event, the true success was reflected in the conversations sparked, shared laughter over games, and the excitement of getting new RC4-themed merch. Perhaps that is why teal carries such meaning within RC4.
For a few hours, differences in houses, majors and year groups faded into the background as residents came together under one shared RC4 identity. Long after the booths have been packed away, the memories of Ops Tealsday remain. Every RC4 shirt worn to class, photo taken at the RC4U mirror and conversations had that day gave the day more meaning than any quantitative evaluation. More than just a biannual tradition, Ops Tealsday demonstrates a community built and strengthened every day.
