Diverse & Exciting Curriculum

RC4 is one of the residential colleges offering the University Town College Programme (UTCP). The UTCP emphasises multidisciplinary learning and active small-group learning.
With modules covering a wide array of societal and global grand challenges, RC4 hopes to prepare all residents to be active system citizens in an ever-changing and challenging future. All classes are capped at 15-18 students each.

Junior Seminars

All RC4 students are required to read a JS course, which comes under the umbrella course of UTC1702. The themes under this umbrella course include ecosystems, healthcare, energy, population, climate change etc. The JS will equip students with the basic tools that can help them to construct holistic mental models on real-world phenomena and then transform those mental models into qualitative and quantitative graphically-motivated models.

Senior Seminars

Most of the SS courses build upon the skill sets that RC4 students acquire in the JS courses. Students can read other SS courses such as UTC2700 An Undefeated Mind: An Experiential Inner Re-engineering Approach to cultivate resilience and appreciate the inter-relationship between mental and physical health. For students who would like to delve into real-life issues confronting Singapore and the world, we introduced a project based course UTC2704 Projects in Systems.

Ideas & Exposition

Students also read writing course known as Ideas and Exposition (I&E). Each I&E focuses on a particular topic. It aims to develop students' critical thinking and writing skills.

What Our Residents Say

Here are some of the testimonials from our residents...

My time in RC4 has the biggest highlight of my University journey. I am proud to call RC4 my second home and the people here my second family. This college has provided me countless of opportunities to help me grow to be the person I am today and I am ever so grateful for all the experiences gained and the Professors that have guided me through my years in the college.

Nurfatin Puteri Amirhamzah

Welcome to RC4! I consider RC4 my second home, a home that contains a vibrant community of diverse individuals. I have enjoyed my time immensely here, and it has been really heartwarming to see each house bond through the various activities, both house-wide and college-wide. I hope you all get to experience what I have right here at RC4.

My stay in RC4 has been one of the most enriching experiences of my life. It has been a truly eye-opening discovery filled with personal growth and of course, lots of fun. I really appreciate being able to take part in different interest groups, from OrcaTech to RC4rsty, and try out new hobbies each time!

What Our Alumni Say

Here are some of the testimonials from our alumni...

RC4 enabled me to go wild trying out new things, like Theatre and Touch Rugby. I also spent time with some fascinating geeks and learnt about domains beyond mine. RC4 was/is the Hufflepuff college of UTown. We did our best and didn't take ourselves too seriously.
I think I flourished because I had the freedom and time to re-try things I wasn't initially competent at doing. Academically, I got better at thinking about systems. RC4 was where I first heard of Donna Meadows' 12 Leverage Points to Intervene in a System and I really love it. If the article inspires you too, come to RC4

Social Worker, PAVE Graduated from Faculty of Arts & Social Science 4 years stay at RC4

RC4 has been an amazing and huge part of my student life at NUS. I would say it is the people I met at RC4 who made my experience there unforgettable. I’m forever thankful for the strong circle of support from both my friends and Profs there. We were there for each other through the highs and lows of our University days - we helped each other tide through the toughest of days and celebrated the best of them together too!
My time at CASA IG in RC4 was a total game changer, which helped me to connect with the community outside of NUS and discover the love of giving back. My experience with CASA IG eventually convinced me to take the leap of faith to start a career in social services instead of one related to my major.

Seah En Qi

Child Protection Officer, Ministry of Social and Family Development Graduated from School of Design and Environment 3.5 years stay at RC4

RC4 is my home on campus, where it was fun, enriching and most of all, restful. School could have been tough, but my friends at RC4 have made it easier.  I enjoy the time I spent in RC4, forging new friendships through the years and meeting people from all corners of NUS.
RC4’s modules and perspectives sessions on a wide range of topics exposed me to areas outside of my chosen field of study. Particularly, the systems thinking and system dynamics modules at RC4 helped us to take a step back to look at social issues on a big picture level.
