A deep dive into one of RC4’s Arts Interest Groups (IGs) – where everyone has the opportunity to explore various arts activities, including dance, singing, crafts, and even puppeteering. How do students in ORC4PELLA learn and grow in the arts? Student journalist Josiah shares more about the journeys of growth in their arts IG!

“Think of two adjectives that describe you” may seem like a simple question. Many of us answer by balancing a strength with an area for growth. At Residential College 4 (RC4)’s Startup Carnival, a student-led showcase of entrepreneurial projects, we met teams whose work embodies two unmistakable qualities: innovation and passion.

Every Inter-House Games has its champions, but few have stories like this year’s. In 2024, Draco finished last overall. In 2025, they rose to the top, writing one of the most remarkable comebacks in RC4 sporting history. Year 1 student, Sarah, recaps on some of the highlights of IHG 2025.

RC4 residents discovered lesser-known benefits of aromatherapy firsthand at the Linen and Room Spray Workshop, a hands-on session that promised both creativity and mindfulness, organised by ORC4RE – RC4’s wellness committee.

Listen to the public lecture by Professor Maharaj Pandit, Ngee Ann Kongsi Distinguished Visiting Professor at NUS, as he connects tectonics, ecology, and medicine through decades of research in “Life After Collisions: Birth, Death & Healing”. This talk was co-organised by Residential College 4, NUS College and NUS Alumni Relations.

As part of the Southeast Asia Friendship Initiative (SFI) course at the Residential College (RC4), students had the opportunity to join the Warloka village community on Flores Island, Indonesia, for a mangrove tree planting project. 3 students reflect on the impactful lessons that they could have not gained in a lecture hall.

Aditya (Year 2) reflects on his time in STEER Himalaya; “(it) was a glimpse at a world diametrically opposed to ours: from meticulously planned towns to wild, soaring mountains; from a bustling urban jungle to timeless, whispering forests; from the relentless rush of Singapore to the graceful dance of the Himalayas. Between the peaks of the mountains flowed conversations that etched lessons into our memories – lessons of simplicity, of resilience, mindfulness and gratitude.”

The winning formula for Huang Ziran (Year 4, House of Aquila) is simple — hard work, passion and dedication. Known for her all-rounded capabilities in sports, Ziran is a prominent figure in the RC4 badminton and dodgeball. She embodies the aspirations of many freshmen, balancing between academic and non-academic commitments. At RC4, Ziran has found a safe space to step out of her comfort zone to discover new sports!

From 10 to 14 February 2025, RC4 residents came together to celebrate the vibrant culture of ASEAN through ASEAN Week. This week-long series of engaging activities, workshops, and culinary experiences provided a platform for residents to immerse themselves in the traditions, history, and arts of the region!

RC4 is not just a place for STEM-focused events and classes – here, we celebrate our diverse and multi-talented community. From Arts Night to Chamber Classics, there are a plethora of platforms for both experienced and beginner students to develop and showcase their artistic interests. At the start of the semester, RC4 residents were treated to a night of captivating performances by their professors and peers – from the masterful classical pieces of Chopin and Beethoven, to fan favourites from Studio Ghibli and The Wizard of Oz!
