Dr. Navarun Varma's goal as an educator is to mainstream systems perspective into disaster education. He inspires his students to apply the thought and method of systems reflectively and to learn deeply about adaptive policymaking for a resilient future. He does this by incorporating problem-based learning and experiential learning theory.

In addition, Dr. Navarun effectively deploys game-based learning to give students the opportunity to reflect on relationships across the free-riding behaviour of humans, uncertain risks, slow and fast hazards as well as collective action and continuous learning for adaptive policy. To share his valuable teaching experiences with game-based learning, he has written a chapter on this topic in his co-edited forthcoming book on pedagogies for policy education by Palgrave MacMillan.
