Dr. Chen Hui-Chen is a senior lecturer at the Alice Lee Centre for Nursing Studies (ALCNS), National University of Singapore (NUS). She received a Bachelor and a Master of Nursing with a distinguished International Merit Scholarship from the University of Sydney, Australia, and obtained a Ph.D. from NUS. Hui-Chen is an accredited Newfield/NUS Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine Associate Coach specialising in coaching peers and students. Beyond the classroom, she mentors students in handling crises and challenging situations in clinical settings. She also leads Nursing and Medical students in community service projects.

Teaching, a passionate educator, Hui-Chen champions and innovates in blended learning, integrative learning, simulation-based pedagogy, formative assessment, and feedback. She applies her teaching innovations in Nursing and Medical courses, including Medical-Surgical Nursing; Comprehensive Health Assessment; Pathophysiology, Pharmacology, and Nursing Practice; Effective Communications; and Phase V Advanced Simulation. The new pedagogical methods make positive influences evidenced by adoptions in the teaching community. Her dedication to teaching excellence earned her Teaching Excellence Awards (2022; 2017), Provost’s Educator Award (2020), Teaching Enhancement Grants (2018; 2016), and Learning Innovation Fund—Technology (2016).

Research, her primary areas include effective communication, nursing education, psychoeducation for patients and their caregiver to empower self-efficacy and psychological well-being. The contributions appear in top-tier or leading nursing education or clinical research journals, including Nurse Education TodayJournal of Clinical NursingOncology Nursing ForumNurse Education in Practice, and Pain Management Nursing.

Hui-Chen’s proficiency in teaching nursing students is also owing to her extensive clinical and academic experiences in Singapore, Taiwan, and the United States. She practiced surgical and medical interventions intensively at world-class acute hospitals and administered public health in a school system. She has been an active Registered Nurse of the California Nursing Board, Minnesota Nursing Board, Taiwan Nursing Board, and Singapore Nursing Board.
