[Perspectives] The Reality of Navigating Wicked Problems in Public Policy
On November 7, "Perspectives" hosted government officers Mingjing Lim from the Ministry of Finance and Jian Wei Heng from the National Climate Change Secretariat. Their talk provided a snapshot of Singapore’s approach to environmental goals and healthcare improvements, examining the practicalities and hurdles in adopting complexity science within the civil service.
Nativism in Ecology: A Xenophobic Metaphor?
On 27 October 2023, Prof Maharaj Pandit, who is visiting NUS as a Ngee Ann Kongsi Distinguished Professor, gave a public lecture entitled “Nativism in Ecology: A Xenophobic Metaphor?” An engaging tour de force of history, geology, geography, ecology and biodiversity, with particular focus on Singapore and Southeast Asia, the talk provoked the audience to ponder “if species’ geographic distribution is a natural phenomenon, is the native-alien debate, spurred by invasion biology, relevant or even necessary?”

On 17 Oct 2023, we were inspired by a panel of RC4 alumni- Lawrence Xiao, Ryan Chong, Danish Lukawski, Lexdan Lim and a special guest Jerrick Tee from Action Community for Entrepreneurship. Our distinguished panel members are all successful founders of various start-ups.
[Perspectives] RC4 STEER Himalaya Forum
The STEER-Himalaya Forum brought together previous cohorts of the RC4 STEER Himalaya program, fresh candidates, experts from the region and the Associate Vice President of NUS-GRO. The RC4 STEER team demonstrated how fieldwork and Systems Thinking can be blended to co-create knowledge targeting mutual learning among students, educators, and community development practitioners.
Operation Tealsday (Sep 2023)
Ops Tealsday happens once every semester. It’s a day where residents showcase RC4 pride by donning the College Shirt together. This semester, residents were treated to popcorn and candy floss as they took part in merchandise sales and a polaroid photobooth.
